David Bloch, Managing Director

David Bloch

CEO

David was born in the US and lived in many countries before moving to the UK, where he completed his secondary education and degree in Sociology. In 1989, attracted by the fast-paced, and diverse environment of recruitment, he worked for several years in three of the UK’s leading recruitment consultancies before leaving to set up Brightwater in Dublin in 1998.  He has since opened offices in Belfast and Cork, and the specialist company Brightwater Executive. Under his leadership, the Brightwater Group has grown to 100 employees and won multiple awards, including winning a “Best Place in Europe to Work For” four years in a row.

Barbara McGrath

Barbara McGrath

Managing Director

Barbara is a B.Comm graduate, MREC qualified, and a Fellow of both the Sales Institute of Ireland and the NRF (National Recruitment Federation). She has over 20 years’ sales experience and over 18 years’ recruitment management experience. She is a former Chairperson of the Sales Institute of Ireland and a former President of the NRF. Barbara joined the Brightwater Group in April 2005, heading up the Business Support and Retail divisions. In January 2007, she was appointed Regional Operations Manager and a year later was promoted to Operations Director. In January 2011, Barbara was appointed to the Board, in July 2015, she was appointed Deputy Managing Director, and in 2017 was promoted to Managing Director of the Brightwater Group.

John O'Donnell


John O’Donnell

Finance Director

John is a qualified FCCA with over 15 years’ PQE in both practice and industry. After graduating from Athlone Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Accounting & Finance in 1994, John then continued to study for his ACCA qualification while working in the insolvency department of a Top 10 accountancy practice. Following his qualification, he worked in industry before returning to a Top 10 accountancy practice as a Consultancy Manager. In 2002, John joined Brightwater as Financial Controller and assisted with the rapid growth of the Brightwater Group. In January 2008, he was promoted to Finance Director and was appointed to the Board in 2011. He is now responsible for the Finance, IT and Administration functions for the companies within the group including offices in Dublin, Cork and Belfast.

BBS in International Business & Japanese. After working in Japan for three years as an interpreter & international business coordinator, she joined Brightwater in 2003 to build out the recently set up Insurance division. After various promotions she managed the financial services and insurance divisions from 2007 - 2011. She then led the set-up of Brightwater’s Executive which is now a team of six partners, whilst managing strategy for Brightwater Group divisions. She personally recruits executive level hires across insurance, funds and aviation leasing. In June 2017 Estelle was appointed to the board of Brightwater Group.
Mark Byrne

Commercial Director

A graduate of DIT Mountjoy Square, Mark has over 15 years’ recruitment experience. Mark joined Brightwater in 2003 as a consultant in the accountancy division working with a range of clients from small indigenous companies to large multinationals. By 2005, Mark was promoted to Assistant Manager and quickly gained further promotion to Manager of that area. In 2011 Mark was promoted to Associate Director and in January 2015 was appointed Commercial Director. He now personally specialises in recruiting sales professionals. He also oversees a team of consultants placing professionals within Human Resources, Sales, Marketing, Business Support and IT. 

Jean O'Donovan

Jean holds a BA in Sociology & Psychology from UCC and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from Michael Smurfit School of Business. Attracted by the autonomous nature of recruitment, she began her recruitment career with a high street recruitment agency. In 2003, Jean joined Brightwater as a consultant in their busy Temporary & Contracts division specialising in accountancy and finance roles across the commercial sector.
Jean has progressed her career with Brightwater and in January 2017 she was promoted to Commercial Director of the Brightwater Group. Jean is now responsible for Brightwater’s accountancy division and oversees a team of consultants who recruit for both qualified and part qualified accountants across, banking, financial services, industry and public practice. She also oversees the legal, engineering, supply chain & logistics and science divisions. 

Tom Wilkinson

Tom holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Management from University College Cork. He has 18 years ‘experience of the recruitment industry having previously worked at Director level with a global recruitment specialist working in Ireland, the UK and Northern Ireland. In January 2015, Tom joined Brightwater Cork as Associate Director with specific responsibility for the Finance & Accountancy division. He also oversees all of the teams in the Cork office which recruits across Accountancy, IT, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales & Marketing and Administration for organisations in Munster and Connacht. In January 2017, Tom was promoted to Commercial Director.

Associate Director - Banking, Funds, Insurance & Legal

Eimear holds an MA in Business Management from Michael Smurfit School of Business and a BA in Economics from UCD. She joined Brightwater in 2006 after taking a year out following her graduation to travel. Eimear currently oversees Brightwater Recruitment’s Financial Services and Legal Division. Her team manage permanent, contract and temporary recruitment across a range of Financial Services Industries including Banking, Treasury, Fund Administration, Insurance, Aviation Leasing and Asset Management as well as a range of Legal, Risk and Compliance roles in both Industry and Practice.  Eimear currently acts as Account Manager to a wide range of Financial Services clients as well as taking responsibility for recruiting Risk and Compliance professionals at mid to senior levels.   

Aoife Clarke

Associate Director

Aoife has overall responsibility for the day to day functioning of the Brightwater head office premises and its facilities. She manages a busy administration division supporting a large team of recruitment consultants for the Brightwater Group across the Republic and Northern Ireland. Aoife also assists with payroll and HR procedures for the whole Group. Prior to joining Brightwater, she worked in the procurement sector for two years. She holds a Secretarial & Computer Studies Certificate. In January 2018, Aoife was appointed Associate Director and is responsible for project implementation including GDPR best practice across the Group. 

Emma Anglim

Manager - Business Support & Retail

Emma graduated from University of Limerick with an Honours Degree in European Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in Software Localisation. She later gained a Postgraduate Diploma in HR and Business. Following her Degree she worked within the software localisation industry with a range of large multinational clients as a project manager and then went on to work in RTE. Emma joined Brightwater in 2007, she currently heads up Brightwater’s Business Support and Retail divisions. Emma and her team have a proven track record in business support recruitment on a permanent, contract and temporary basis across a range of industries including banking, treasury, funds, insurance, aviation leasing, legal, practice and IT.

Hugh McCarthy

Regional Manager - IT

Hugh holds a BA (Hons) in History & Politics from UCD in 1995. After graduating, he then went on to complete a Higher Diploma in Computer Science in 1997 before embarking on a career in recruitment. He spent over six years recruiting for a global recruitment consultancy in the US, UK and Ireland in their technology division before deciding to return to Ireland full-time. Hugh joined Brightwater in early 2003 and helped establish the IT division from the outset focusing on the temporary & contract arena. In 2010 he was appointed Manager. He has over fifteen years’ direct IT experience recruiting for high-end consultants in high volume complex projects, with a particular emphasis on retail, corporate and investment banking.In 2017, he was appointed Regional IT Manager to assist with development of IT recruitment across Ireland, with special responsibility in Dublin, Belfast and Cork.

Manager - Engineering & Operations, Science and Supply Chain & Logistics

Cathal has a BA (Honours) in Accounting and Human Resource Management from the National College of Ireland. He also holds a Diploma in Employment Law. Cathal has over 16 years’ experience working in engineering recruitment and has worked in locations as diverse as New Zealand and Australia. He has recruited for international clients across the Middle East, North Africa and Australasia. Cathal joined Brightwater’s Engineering & Supply Chain division at the start of 2010. He currently manages a team of four consultants working on both large scale recruitment projects and individual assignments for clients across a range of positions such as consulting and contracting, M&E, civil, structural, water, environmental, roads, traffic & transport, project management, quantity surveying, supply chain & procurement, production & manufacturing, facilities and Health & Safety.

Derek Smyth

Manager - IT

Derek Smyth holds a MBS from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business at UCD, and a BA in Human Resource Management from the NCI.  He joined Brightwater in 2010, having worked at management level in a previous recruitment firm.  Since then, Derek has led a team of IT Contract recruiters who specialise in the full breath of IT specialisms from technical support to senior managers. Their client base spans banking, insurance, fund administration, software product, public sector and a wide range of SMEs and IT services companies. Derek has developed a number of long-term relationships with blue chip companies and is highly networked within the IT community.

Michael Minogue

Manager - Legal

Michael graduated with a BCL degree from University College Cork and subsequently trained and qualified as a Solicitor with an international commercial firm specialising in professional indemnity litigation. He joined Brightwater in 2014 as a legal consultant and was promoted to Assistant Manager in 2016 where he oversees a team of consultants recruiting for legal professionals. He recruits legal professionals for both practice and in-house clients, specialising in legal, compliance and company secretarial roles from junior to senior level. Michael acts as account manager for the majority of top commercial law firms in Dublin. In January 2018. Michael was appointed manager of the Legal division.

Annita McGettigan

Assistant Manager - Accountancy (Temporary & Contract)

Annita graduated from Dublin Business School in 2009 with a Degree in Marketing. She also holds a Diploma in Event Management and PR. Prior to joining Brightwater, Annita worked as an Account Executive in Dubai. She joined Brightwater’s Accountancy division in 2013. She is currently an Assistant Manager on the Temporary and Contract Accountancy team where she oversees a team of consultants. Annita currently recruits part and fully qualified accountants on both a temporary & contract basis on behalf of clients across a variety of industries including financial services, banking, practice, SMEs and large multinationals.

Assistant Manager - Engineering

Andrew holds a Higher National Diploma in Business Studies from the University of Wolverhampton. After graduating he built a successful career in sales and business development where he held senior management positions with a number of major retail brands, managing turnover figures of up to £10m. In 2005 he then moved to the recruitment industry with a focus on engineering roles while also gaining experience across the science and technology sectors. Andrew joined Brightwater's Munster office in June 2013 as a consultant on the Engineering desk. In September 2016, Andrew was promoted to Assistant Manager and supervises a team of consultants recruiting for  engineering and manufacturing professionals on behalf of clients in Ireland and overseas.

Karyn Glennon

Assistant Manager - Office (Temporary & Contract)

Karyn gained a distinction in Human Resource Management Diploma from Dublin Business School in July 2016. Upon leaving school Karyn joined one of Ireland’s most prestigious hairdressing groups where she moved rapidly up the ranks from apprentice to stylist and finally to management over a 9 year period. She then spent some time working in Australia before returning to Ireland where she enrolled in Pitman Training. After gaining a secretarial diploma, she took on a role as a student administrator in a creative arts college. Karyn then moved into a recruitment consultancy to act as a team administrator. It was not long before she showed a passion for the industry and joined the ranks as a consultant herself. In November 2014 Karyn joined the Brightwater Group as a consultant in their Temporary & Contracts division where she recruits for office staff on a temporary & contracts basis. In January 2017, Karyn was promoted to Assistant Manager.

Assistant Manager - Accountancy (Industry & Commerce)

After graduating from UCD in 2005, Ciarán moved to Australia where he worked as the National Sales Manager for a Sales & Marketing company. He then helped set up a sister company where he was appointed Sales Director. Upon returning to Ireland in 2014, he undertook further study and is currently working towards a Diploma of International Financial Services with the Institute of Banking.  Ciarán recognised a key area of opportunity in the professional recruitment consultancy sector and decided on a career change. In April 2015, Ciarán joined Brightwater’s Dublin office as a consultant in the Accountancy division. He is now working with a range of clients from small indigenous companies to large multinationals, specialising in recruiting qualified accountants for the industry and commerce sector on a permanent basis. In September 2016 Ciarán was promoted to the role of senior consultant and in January 2017, Ciarán was promoted to Assistant Manager.

John Howe


John Howe

Assistant Manager - Banking & Funds

After studying Biochemistry in UCD, John worked with a global financial services company in Dublin. In September 2011, John joined Brightwater and progressed through the ranks in multiple divisions, including IT, into his current role, where he manages the Banking and Funds Division. He oversees the recruitment of permanent and contract professionals in treasury, fund accounting, transfer agency, front and middle office specialists, and more. Throughout his 6 years’ recruitment experience, John’s clients have grown to include companies such as boutique asset managers, international banks and fund administrators, trading and technology firms.

Conor Bannon

Assistant Manager - Engineering

Conor graduated with a BA (Hons) in Economics from UCD. He started his career in retail banking before moving into sales, then IT recruitment – both in-house and agency. Conor joined Brightwater in November 2015 as a recruitment consultant in the engineering team.  Conor recruits across the engineering disciplines for SMEs and Multinationals mostly in Ireland, but also internationally.  In July 2017, Conor was promoted to Assistant Manager.

Brendan McCarron

Assistant Manager - Human Resources

Brendan is a BA Honours Graduate in History and has worked within the Irish staffing industry since 2013. He spent 12 years in the entertainment industry working across the globe in countries such as Russia, Japan, the U.S, China and South Africa. On returning to Ireland, Brendan worked as a Senior Consultant with a multi-national staffing company, before moving to a new organisation to manage a team of IT recruitment consultants. He is experienced in all employment types having worked in permanent, day rate contract, fixed-term, temp and payroll only.

Brendan joined Brightwater in April 2017 as Assistant Manager of the HR division and assists companies of all sizes and across all sectors with their HR recruitment requirements. He specialises in recruiting HR professionals at all levels from administration through to HR management and across all specialisms including recruitment coordination, training/learning & development and employee engagement/compensation & benefits.

Eileen Moloney

Eileen Moloney

Head of Marketing

Eileen holds a BA in Applied Languages from DCU. She spent five years working in sales and marketing roles in various sectors including hospitality, electronics, manufacturing and recruitment before joining Brightwater as a recruitment consultant in their international division. Within three years, she had returned to her marketing roots and moved within the group to their in-house marketing function. In 2005, Eileen was promoted to Team Leader and in 2008, was promoted again to Head of Marketing. She now manages the marketing function for the entire Group in both the Republic and Northern Ireland. She oversees a busy internal marketing team and is responsible for all of the Group’s sponsorship activities and various events affiliated with many of Ireland’s leading professional institutes.

John Duffy

Head of IT

After graduating from the James Watt College in Scotland with a HND in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, John began his career working in one of the biggest European computer manufacturing plants as a process yield engineer. He then spent a number of years travelling and working across the globe before settling in Ireland in 2001. In 2003 he joined one of Ireland’s professional accountancy bodies where he worked for nearly ten years supporting the institute and their IT infrastructure including setting up a new training centre. In 2013 John then joined Brightwater’s internal IT team as Senior Systems Specialist. In July 2014, he was promoted to the Head of IT where he oversees a number of vital implementation projects. John is now responsible for the entire internal IT team, maintaining an exceptional quality service for the Brightwater Group consultants across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Louise Walsh

Assistant Manager - Finance

Louise has a Diploma in Payroll Management and a Diploma in Credit Management. Upon leaving school, she completed a PLC course before joining Brightwater in 2003 as a Junior Accounts Assistant working on all aspects of payroll, accounts receivable and payable.  In 2009, Louise then began work in a construction company as an Accounts Assistant before moving to the hotel industry as an Accounts Payable Assistant. In a welcome move, Louise re-joined Brightwater in 2013 as Credit Controller and was promoted to Senior Credit Controller for the Group in 2016. In January 2018, she was promoted to Assistant Manager of Finance.

Dara Nugent

Assistant Manager - Administration

On leaving school Dara attended Cavan Institute. She completed a Fetac Level 5 in Business Computing and a Fetac Certificate in Professional Conduct in Business Awareness, along with obtaining an Itec Make up Artistry Certificate. Following this, Dara spent a few years temping in various companies before developing an interest in the childcare sector. She then completed her Fetac Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Childcare Supervision and took various roles to support this interest including an assistant in a Montessori, a special needs assistant in a primary school and as an education carer in a crèche.  Dara returned to Dublin in February 2015 and joined Brightwater’s administration team where she supports a busy team of recruitment consultants in all administration matters. Dara was promoted to Senior Administrator in January 2017 and in January 2018 was appointed Assistant Manager where she assists with the running of the administration function in the Dublin office.
