About the Position

My client’s IT&T department is responsible for delivering IT and Telecoms services across its organization, including its subsidiaries and support units. The role of IT&T is to establish a robust IT foundation, support and develop systems, manage integration between platforms, set standards for IT policy and governance, and lead information risk activities. The department services approximately 4,000 IT users across 200 sites, making it one of the most geographically dispersed IT environments in the country.


Responsibilities
 

  • Firewall Architecture: Develop and implement comprehensive architectures, strategies, and roadmaps for their firewall infrastructure.

  • Firewall Design: Act as the primary Firewall Architect, defining architectures and rulesets for their Palo Alto firewall estate, including the creation of High-Level Design, Low-Level Design, and Change Requests. Oversee and implement firewall solutions directly or in collaboration with other engineers.

  • Project Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including project managers, network engineers, system administrators, and developers, to meet firewall requirements throughout project lifecycles.

  • Incident Response Planning: Contribute to technical incident response plans, identifying potential threats, assessing risks, and defining protocols for handling cybersecurity incidents.

  • Cybersecurity Incident Management: Serve on the incident response panel, addressing major cybersecurity incidents, containing threats, mitigating damages, and restoring operations. This may involve being on-call and working outside standard hours during significant incidents.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on emerging threats, technologies, and best practices, continuously improving firewall capabilities through research, conferences, and collaboration.

  • Support Security Services: Assist the broader Security Services function as a firewall subject matter expert, mentoring junior staff and providing cover for other roles when necessary.

  • Operational Oversight: Oversee firewall operational activities conducted by internal teams and third-party providers, ensuring best practices and compliance with change approval processes.

  • Security Remediation Activities: Conduct bi-annual firewall rule assessments and develop technical responses to penetration tests, security assessments, and vulnerability scan findings related to firewalls.



Experience/Requirements
 
  • Proven experience leading firewall architecture.

  • Hands-on expertise with Palo Alto firewalls.

  • Familiarity with firewall architectures in a hybrid cloud environment (e.g., Azure).

  • Strong understanding of security processes and services.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in reporting, documentation, and presenting to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.


Qualifications and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.

  • Relevant Palo Alto firewall certifications.

  • Additional certifications in cybersecurity are advantageous.

  • Experience working with third-party vendors.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in firewall architecture.

  • Solid technical background in cybersecurity.
