Data Protection Manager

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will be instrumental in ensuring the organisation's compliance with data protection legislation and fostering a culture of data privacy best practices.

In this key role, you will:

  • Be the primary point of contact for data subjects, addressing their inquiries and requests regarding personal data rights with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Inform and advise the organisation and its employees on the intricacies of applicable privacy laws and regulations, staying ahead of European developments and trends.
  • Champion the ongoing implementation and evolution of the organisation's data protection policies and related processes.
  • Serve as the main liaison with the Office of the Data Protection Commission (DPC), expertly managing any regulatory inquiries or audits.
  • Provide clear guidance and instructions on conducting thorough Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Ensure all data subject queries are handled within legal timeframes, expertly managing data subject access requests.
  • Advise on and monitor the compliance of records of processing activities, ensuring adherence to retention and deletion schedules.
  • Review and provide expert input on the data protection aspects of the organisation's contracts, including Data Processing Agreements and international data transfer mechanisms.
  • Offer practical, day-to-day guidance and advice to the business on a wide range of data protection matters.
  • Proactively monitor and address any potential issues or risks related to the protection of personal data.
  • Lead the investigation and management of potential data breaches or non-compliance incidents, collaborating with stakeholders on incident response and reporting to the DPC and data subjects as necessary.
  • Take ownership of regularly reviewing and updating data protection policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Develop and deliver engaging training and awareness programs for staff on data privacy obligations and best practices.
  • Provide insightful reports on the status of the privacy programme to senior management and executive committees.

What we are looking for:

  • A highly experienced Data Protection professional with a strong track record in data protection or a similar compliance role.
  • Experience in managing data incidents and breaches with a calm and effective approach.

  • Proven ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple tasks effectively, and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Ideally, you will also have:

  • A relevant Data Protection qualification such as a PDP Practitioner Certificate, CDPP/CIPP/CIPT, or equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 years of demonstrable experience in a similar role within a GDPR/Data protection environment.
  • Experience implementing data protection standards and managing data access requests.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams while maintaining your independence.
  • A flexible and proactive approach, coupled with strong teamwork skills.
  • Comfort in working both autonomously and as a valuable member of a wider team.
