Life Underwriter

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Underwriter to evaluate and analyse new and existing Individual and Group Risk business. This role is ideal for an ambitious professional with 3-5 years of underwriting experience. The successful candidate will be a clear and logical thinker with exceptional attention to detail, eager to advance their career in underwriting.  This is a 12-month maternity leave contract

Your Role

As an Underwriter, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing and applying appropriate terms within authority and in accordance with company philosophy for Life, Serious Illness, and Income Protection (IP) proposals, including:
    • Consideration of medical, occupational, and avocational risks
    • Assessment of financial risks
  • Producing high-quality underwriting decisions in a timely manner
  • Engaging with the Chief Medical Officer and reinsurers on complex cases
  • Interacting with the New Business department to ensure effective and efficient communication of underwriting requirements and final decisions on applications
  • Effectively interacting with brokers and broker consultants to explain underwriting requirements and decisions
  • Working independently with a high degree of accuracy
  • Building underwriting experience through attendance at appropriate training seminars and broker workshops as required

Your Skills and Experience

As an Underwriter, your skills and qualifications will include:

  • Graduate with a Diploma in Life and Disability Underwriting (preferable)
  • 3-5 years of market experience with Underwriting Authority for Life, Serious Illness, and preferably IP
  • Commitment to achieving excellent customer outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time and workload effectively, displaying a flexible approach to work and learning
  • Team player

Additional Information

This is a hybrid role that will initially be office-based to allow for onboarding.

Remuneration Package

Salary will be based on experience.
