IACT: Corporate Treasurers Summit 2016

Eimear Walsh and Sara Goulding of Brightwater’s financial services division and Estelle Davis and Jean Heylin of the executive team were delighted to attend and sponsor the IACT: Corporate Treasurers Summit Conference 2016.
The event kicked off in the Ballsbridge Hotel on the morning of the 16th of November, Chairman George Lee introduced the first of the day’s speakers, George Stubbs of JP Morgan who discussed the global market and what treasurers should be expecting in 2016. Stubbs noted Brexit, changes in the US economy and emerging markets as the biggest impact on the global market. Patrick Lenin and Yosuke Jin of the OECD were next to take to the stage. They both considered the Eurozone and its upcoming challenges and reforms in terms of regulation. Phil John of Mars Inc. then discussed “The Treasurers’ Wishlist” and how digital processes and overall simplification within the treasury industry is driving improvements. The final of the morning’s speakers were Sir Richard Sherriff of NATO and Mike Dolan of Reuters News, who considered the changing political landscape and its impact on the global trade and commerce market.
After a quick coffee break “European Union Tax Laws” was the next topic up for discussion by Pieter Burger, Partner at Deloitte. Keith Fingleton of IDA Ireland closed the afternoon’s session on his thoughts on the “Fintech Revolution” and what this revolution means for the treasury sector.
The lunch time session opened with the very topical issue of cyber-crime by Paul C Dwyer, President of International Cyber Threat Task Force. He was followed by James Allan, Head of Corporate Banking at Barclays who discussed the advantages of going cashless in the banking sector. The final talk of the afternoon was from Lorraine Hughes of Expansion Group Treasury, regarding the importance of selecting a cash management provider.
The final session of the conference was opened with a discussion on the benefits of diversification by Ulrik Ross of HSBC. Tracy Piggott RTE broadcaster, former jockey and entrepreneur gave a very engaging talk of the topic of “Irish Horse Racing – No Job for a Woman”. After a very insightful and interesting day the conference was closed by Ronan Doyle, President of the Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers.
The IACT, Corporate Treasures Summit Conference 2016 was a highly engaging and informative day for all involved, especially given the current situation within the Irish financial services sector. The conference speakers certainly gave an insight into the treasury sector following Brexit and global challenges affecting the financial services sector.
